Letterpress packaging for a chocolate bar that you just know will taste special.
“Beans-to-bar” chocolatiers, Gansett Craft Chocolates, reached out to us about producing some letterpress packaging for their small batch, high quality confections. We love Narragansett, the charming, picturesque beach town located in southern Rhode Island and for whom Gansett gets their name from. And anyone who has traveled there immediately recognizes the iconic Towers of Narragansett.
Situated on a rocky outcropping near the public beach, the structure is all that remains of Narragansett Pier Casino, which was destroyed in a fire in 1900. The beautifully restored stone structures are a historic symbol of the Gilded Age and now serve as a venue for public events.
Why letterpress packaging was right for this design.
These unique pieces were designed by the uber-talented Lindsay Fair of WOMA Design, which we have had the luxury of working with on other such high-quality projects. With the main design of “The Towers” resembling an old woodcut print, it was decided that letterpress would be the perfect process to reproduce the image. Letterpress, like engraving, embossing and other time honored processes we do in-house at DATAGRAPHIC, has the ability to add both an air of craft and history to a printed piece that few other mediums can.
How we produced this lovely letterpress packaging.
The rich tone of PMS 294 paired beautifully with the Colorplan Azure Blue cover stock, reminiscent of the big blue skies of the quaint coastal town. Deep impressions from the letterpress added to the historical feel of the piece while the gold foil stamped logo really raised the bar and harkened back to the area’s opulent past.
Now, visitors to beautiful Narragansett that find their way to Gansett Craft Chocolates get to take home a tasty bit of Rhode Island history with these bars.
