These custom printed coasters are a wonderful throwback to the early days of commercial air travel.
We had a lot of fun producing these custom printed coasters for the TWA Hotel at JFK Airport in New York City. The newly opened boutique hotel bears the identity of long defunct Trans World Airlines, where it occupies the former TWA terminal. Its unique, modern architecture is accompanied by mid-century design styling throughout the state-of-the-art 512-room hotel.
Fittingly for this project, the scalloped edges of the custom printed coasters threw the whole cocktail lounge feel over the top. The phone number “LExington 2-7100” printed in classic PMS 186 red refers to the old telephone switchboard at the La Guardia Airport and shows how much times have changed!
