This award-winning sculpted emboss notecard set will have you wondering “how did they do that?!”
At DATAGRAPHIC, we love creating print that wows. Our reputation for being multi-process masters has attracted the attention of many top creatives who bring us their most challenging projects.
Sometimes, we’ll throw a new challenge at ourselves to see how far we can push our capabilities while maintaining the high standard we’ve become synonymous with in the printing industry. Our “Sweet Notes” sculpted emboss notecard set, which won an FSEA award for Best Use of Foil/Embossing, was one such challenge.

How we produced this sculpted emboss notecard set.
While nothing new, the sculpted emboss technique is probably less commonly utilized because of the competency and equipment required to successfully pull it off. For our “Sweet Notes” sculpted emboss notecard set, we attempted – and dare we say “succeeded” – to simulate a hastily applied strip of cellophane tape, complete with creases, shadows and serrated edges.
The deep red heart was foil stamped onto the Colorplan vellum, nestling it within a slight bevel, which makes the “tape” truly appear to be separately stuck on top of it. And it’s probably not until someone opens the card and sees the reversed, embossed imprint of the design that they realize it is all an illusion created by our master printers.

Why DATAGRAPHIC excels at producing sculpted emboss notecard sets.
Embossing and debossing are versatile techniques that allow us to create actual depth within an otherwise two-dimensional space. When we combined these techniques with foil stamping and UV screen printing we were able to simulate the seemingly impossible: raised clear tape.
Of course, it helps that we have just about every conceivable printing, finishing and binding process in-house. This not only allows us to maintain the same level of quality and attention to detail from start to finish, but it also makes us great stewards of our customers’ budgets and timelines.
Our “Sweet Notes” sculpted emboss notecard set was featured as a PaperSpecs Must Have.
