Bringing the barrier-grid animation back into style via these invitations.
It’s not everyday that you get to work on one interactive print job that involves barrier-grid animation, much less two! Also known as a kinegram or picket-fence animation, a barrier-grid animation involves a die cut outer sleeve with a printed insert that contains two separate interlaced images. As the insert slides in and out of the sleeve, the alternating images are displayed within the die cuts of the sleeve, thus producing a simple 2-frame animation.
Designed by New York’s NR2154, this historic printing process was rather fitting for the Pace Gallery invitation suite since some of the artists whose works are represented there, such as Alexander Calder, are considered masters of kinetic art. Adding to the wow factor of the Pace insert, we triplexed (laminated 3 sheets together) the 26pt Neenah Folding Board to a hefty thickness of 78pt!
