Imagine a book with a die cut hole…and then feast your eyes on this.
This has got to be one of the most special projects we have ever produced – this coffee table book with a die cut hole entitled, “No One To Pass The Peas” was created by New York City agency, Mythology. The luxurious casebound book contains over 200 pages of incredible content and exemplary print production. The central theme of this rich tome was the isolation that many of us felt during the 2020-2022 pandemic and how we often turned to food and cooking as a means of creating comfort and passing the time.
Created as a gift for their clients, the book contains 47 family recipes derived from Mythology staff members who were gracious enough to pass on their delicious culinary secrets. Each page was dedicated to a specific meal and contained custom coordinated illustrations focused on the ingredients of each recipe.
The most special feature is how we engineered the book to contain a cast bronze spoon custom made with Mythology’s iconic griffin-like creature. The spoon proudly sits atop a multi-layered platform made up of 20 ply’s of Classic Crest Red Pepper Cover Stock and affixed by fine silk ribbon. The spoon is visible through a die cut hole in the front cover, which really makes this book something quite unique.
The cover’s typography was produced by using a deep relief blind stamping and made up of 6 ply’s of the Classic Crest Red Pepper Cover Stock. The bevels created by the debossing allow for some beautiful light and shadows within the interplay of the letter shapes. The result is a truly exquisite object d’art.
